About this prototype

This is an independent prototype. It is not a government service and is not run by, or affiliated with, GOV.UK or any government department.

How it works

When you ask a question, an AI model searches official UK public-sector websites, reads the relevant pages and writes an answer with links to its sources. It may ask you follow-up questions to work out what applies to you.

It can only use pages from these websites:

GOV.UK and other gov.uk sites, including HMRC guidance, legislation.gov.uk, nidirect and local councils
the NHS (nhs.uk) and NHS Scotland (nhsinform.scot)
the Scottish Government (gov.scot) and mygov.scot
the Welsh Government (gov.wales and llyw.cymru)
the police (police.uk)
the UK Parliament (parliament.uk)

Links to any other website are removed from answers.

Check before you act

Answers are written by an AI model and can be wrong or out of date. Always check the official page linked in the answer before you make a decision, apply for something or pay for something.

This service cannot apply for anything, make payments or see your records. If you need help urgently, contact the organisation directly. In an emergency, call 999.

Where you live

Some rules are different in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The service guesses which part of the UK you are in from your approximate location, and you can change it.
